Dr Association For The Study Of Literatures Of The Colonial Era

The study of colonial literature has often been over-neglected, especially in France , even if the situation is different in the case of the English-speaking world. By colonial literature, we do not only mean novels, plays, poetry published at that time, but also reports by missionaries, soldiers of the Empire, colonial agents, travelogues and so forth, i.e. by the various actors or witnesses of the general process of colonization.
The purpose of our association is to encourage and foster, by congresses and publication, the development of such studies, alongside with a desire to provide a link with the English and Portuguese speaking words, thus covering the whole of the African continent, and possibly other parts of the Commonwealth. We also intend to collaborate with historians specialists of this era.
